2017... The Birth Of Honest
Honest Skincare began simply — with handmade sugar scrubs, balms and body butters in three beautiful scents.
When we started, we were making products in the kitchen. Here are my beautiful daughters labelling them at the dinner table.
2019 - The discovery of Kawakawa
But as we made and experimented with our products, our curiosity grew. We became increasingly interested in holistic health and supporting the skin with simple, purposeful ingredients, rather than creating complicated formulas filled with things we didn't believe needed to be there.
That philosophy led us to kawakawa.
With its long history of traditional use in Aotearoa New Zealand, kawakawa opened our eyes further to the value of uncomplicated, plant-based skincare and became an important part of the Honest Skincare journey.
We'd also started to grow - and moved into our first commercial space, a tiny 40 meters built into the back of our warehouse - which we quickly outgrew!
2021 - WE LEARN ABOUT CASTOR OIL
What began as another ingredient we were curious about quickly became something much more. We were fascinated by its versatility, its rich history of traditional use and just how much could be achieved with one remarkably simple oil.
Castor oil became a defining part of our journey and strengthened a belief that had been growing from the beginning: good skincare doesn't have to be complicated.
We simply knew we had to find the best oil there is: cold pressed, absolutely free from any solvents or chemicals, and beautifully processed to retain all the natural good effects of a top quality oil.
2025 - new warehouse and new suppliers
Four years and 3 locations later our castor oil is being shipped around New Zealand and Australia. Our team has grown to 9 people, all who are passionate about what we do - and why.
We've taken your suggestions for products to compliment this beautiful oil, and added them to our range. We wanted to show you, our customers that our oil is safe and completely trusted. We applied and were awarded BioGro organic certification - a rigorous process but worth every bit of effort.
2026 and onwards

We infuse high-quality natural oils like sweet almond oil with known skin stimulators like organic black tea and fairtrade coffee to create our signature scents. These oils are blended with other oils by hand and poured or scooped into containers—you don't get much simpler than that!

At Honest Skincare, we believe that what you put on your skin is as important to your health as what you put in your body.
This is why every ingredient we use is 100% edible, natural, vegan (aside from beeswax), food-grade, and organically sourced where possible.
While we don’t recommend eating our products, they’re so good you could eat them! Our products contain superfoods for your skin and are made from pure skin-nurturing oils and butters, organic
and fair trade tea, coffee, and spices, blended by hand and packaged with love without chemicals, preservatives, or fake fragrances.

GOOD FOR THE ENVIRONMENT
We know you care about the environment as much as we do, so we aim to be plastic-free and reusable wherever possible.
Honest Skincare products come in reusable, recyclable glass bottles and jars.
Our raw ingredients come in resealable and reusable kraft paper bags with a foil lining, or if oil, in glass bottles.
We post in cardboard boxes and use wood wool or butcher paper as a packing material.

Yes, we are open 9 am—5 pm Monday through Friday. We are located at 8c Walls Road, Penrose in Auckland New Zealand
Yes, we do! We make our products on-site at our warehouse in Penrose, Auckland, and source ethical, organic, and fair-trade products from New Zealand and overseas.
If you order before 4pm on a weekday, your order will leave us that day. We send using trusted couriers. Generally it takes 1-3 days to be delivered in New Zealand, and less than a week to Australia.
